Social media is a great way to keep up with what's going on - with your friends, acquaintances, business contacts - you name it.

You're cruising along the Internet, chatting with your followers/friends/stalkers when one day you get the message we've all seen before: the person you're trying to Direct Message doesn't follow/friend/stalk you anymore.

It's the social media equivalent of getting dumped. The first time it happens, it may take you off guard a little. (I'm hoping it doesn't send you straight for the Ben & Jerry's or anything that severe.)

And then you'll probably wonder how many OTHER people have unfollowed/unfriended/de-stalked you. Let's pretend this is just a fleeting curiosity on your part, and you don't become obsessed, which may require more trips to the dairy section at Kroger.

If you really want to know when it happens, there are ways of finding out.
