I had the honor to attend the first-ever Memphis Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony last night. It was held at the Cannon Center (a gorgeous place) in downtown Memphis.
This was a celebration of Memphis music, but I've gotta tell you, at times it was more like a family reunion.
It was hard not to be in awe of some of these folks, who have long and storied careers as Memphis music legends. Many of the ones who have passed on were represented by their families, who were close to other inductees' families, because they were all bound by the same tie: Memphis music.
There is a reason this city is called the "Birthplace of Rock and Roll and the Home of the Blues".
Without Memphis' contribution to the musical genre, I shudder to think what in the world we'd be listening to today.
In case you missed my piece on the evening that aired today on Memphis Morning News, I'm posting it here.
