A native Memphian, Kenny began his radio career working weekends at legendary Memphis top 40 station WMPS. Since then, he has spent over 30 years at stations in Memphis, as well as Greenville, Mississippi, and Tampa-St. Petersburg. Kenny attended Ridgeway High School and the University of Memphis.
In his free time, Kenny enjoys travel, concerts, and following his favorite sports teams: the Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Chiefs, and the University of Memphis Tigers.
Last week, at about the same time Harry Smith of CBS was shooting baskets and tossing softballs to President Obama, Congressman Steve Cohen was giving the Tea Party movement the back of his hand on an internet/satellite radio talk show.
Why should these media moments be tied together?
Because it is another entry on a long list of examples of media bias.
Harry Smith sympathetically asked the President for his reaction to conservative talk radio, asserting -- without specific examples, of course -- that the President was being called a Nazi.
President Obama then wasted no time in dropping the names of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. In his next sentence, he characterized their brand of talk radio as "vitriol."
There is no record of President Obama speaking with similar disdain for Wanda Sykes, who was the featured entertainer at last year's White House correspondents dinner. In fact, the President laughed and smiled while Sykes compared Limbaugh to Osama Bin Ladin, and wished that the talk radio icon's kidneys would fail.
And don't expect any member of the dominant liberal media to challenge the President about giving his tacit endorsement to Sykes' hateful remarks.
Similarly, don't hold your breath waiting for Harry Smith to ask about the vitriol coming from Cohen, who likened members of the Tea Party movement to Klansmen and supporters of legendary separatist George Wallace. (For the record, Wallace was a Democrat.)
Congressman Cohen spewed his nonsense on The Young Turks, hosted by Michael Shure and Cenk Uygur:
This Is Not An April Fools Day Joke
Thursday 04-01-2010 10:26am CT
Here's one from the You-Can't-Make-This-Stuff-Up department.
Last Friday, a hearing was held by the House Armed Services Committee.
On the agenda was the planned relocation of 8,000 Marines and their families to the Western Pacific U.S. territory of Guam.
Committee members were questioning Admiral Robert Willard.
Enter committee member Hank Johnson, Congressman from Georgia's fourth district.
He expressed concern to Admiral Willard that the addition of 25,000 more residents might cause Guam to "tip over and capsize."
I repeat, this is not an April Fools Day joke.
Keep in mind that Guam is not a pontoon boat wafting in the Pacific waters.
It is 212 square miles, and already has a population of 175,000.
Since Congressman Johnson is a liberal Democrat, don't hold your breath waiting to see this video on the CBS, NBC or ABC evening news.
But just imagine if this little slice of insanity came from Republican John Boehner.
To prove I am not making this up, the unaltered exchange is included below.
Der Fuhrer On John Calipari
Thursday 03-25-2010 9:42am CT
Thanks to a listener, who sent me a link to a new John Calipari spoof.
This one is the latest in a series of funny videos that have sprung from an unlikely place: a movie about the last days of Adolph Hitler.
Here's the backstory:
Der Untergang, which is German for downfall, is the title of a 2004 German film about Hitler's final days in a Berlin bunker, just before the end of World War II.
Since the film was intended for German audiences, German is spoken exclusively in the movie, with no subtitles.
In an intense four-minute scene, Hitler, played by Swiss actor Bruno Ganz, goes into a screaming tirade while surrounded by his inner circle.
The lack of text popping up on the bottom of the screen has given pranksters the ability to do their own "translations" of what Der Fuhrer is so enraged about.
Anything that takes a poke at Calipari is golden in my book. Enjoy.
Required Reading On Health Care Reform
Tuesday 03-23-2010 10:01am CT
Today, President Obama will sign the health care bill into law.
For the record, this is the bill approved by the U.S. Senate on Christmas Eve, and affirmed by the House of Representatives Sunday night.
The estimated cost of this government entitlement is just under one trillion dollars. History shows us -- think Medicare -- that the price tag is likely to be at least two or three times that amount.
In other words, this singular piece of legislation has the potential to destroy the American economy for generations to come.
Many very smart people have chimed in on this enormous issue. Click on the links below for a reality check you are not likely to get from Barack Obama or Nancy Pelosi:
Sally Pipes has been a guest on Memphis Morning News on two occasions. She is the author of the book The Top Ten Myths of American Health Care. From the pages of the New York Post, her current column is Obamacare Wins: Now The Pain Begins.
Tom Price of Georgia is not only a member of the U.S. House of Representatives -- he is also a medical doctor. In AOL News, he points out that Obamacare Means 159 New Government Agencies.
