Dial 2-1-1 to Find Help  If you are looking for help, or want to provide someone with help, just dial 2-1-1 to reach the community information and referral resources of LINC, the Library Information Center at the Memphis Public Library. LINC, in conjunction with United Way of the Mid-South, is the local source for community resources. The Ronald McDonald House of Memphis provides a "home away from home" for the families of children receiving treatment at St. Jude.  The house is currently very low and out of certain pantry and cleaning items.  The house provides resident families with pantries and supply closets where families have access to a variety of food items, as well as paper and cleaning supplies at no charge. Covington Animal Rescue Effort rescues dogs from the city pound that would otherwise be euthanized. They are placed in foster homes, provided all necessary vet services, and then are placed in "forever" homes.  They have lots of fosters right now...especially puppies!   See more on their website:  www.covingtonanimalrescueeffort.com.

The Athena Project serves women who have experienced domestic violence and are troubled by stress after the violence ends.  It is a free service available to all members of the community, offered by the Psychology Department of the University of Memphis.  Victims of domestic violence may experience such symptoms of stress as nightmares, trouble concentrating, avoidance of situations that remind them of the abuse, feeling nervous and ‘jumpy,’ and other related emotional problems.  Participants will receive free evaluation, and possible treatment designed to help alleviate signs and symptoms of post-trauma stress.  For more information call Dr. Gayle Beck at 901-678-3973.

The Gambling Clinic at the University of Memphis provides affordable outpatient services to treat gambling problems. The American Cancer Society reports an estimated 218,890 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County has established a way for the Memphis community to donate cans as a way of supporting the organization. "Cans for Cash"  encourages people to bring their aluminum cans to the Humane Society, located at 2238 Central, and donate them to help the Humane Society continue their life-saving activities which are accomplished without any tax-dollar funding.
